Year: 2015
Client: University of Chicago Hospital
Engagement details: Graduate coursework
This deck is the end product of a semester-long product design workshop I took while earning my masters degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute of Design. Thanks to a very close partnership with a surgeon at the University of Chicago Hospital's Center for Care and Discovery, I was welcomed into the OR to don scrubs and directly observe surgeries for several days, interviewing doctors, nurses and technicians throughout the process. This research guided the creation of several concepts for medical products, all of which take a long view on how emerging technology could improve the system-level operations of the hospital from within the operating room. After the research and synthesis stage I primarily worked on the Smart Table concept and its user interface along with my classmate Evan Scott.
